Abstract

Objective: To determine the diagnostic accuracy of Single Photon EmissionComputed Tomography by taking Coronary Angiography as gold standard for thedetection of Coronary Artery Disease.

Methodology: It is a cross-sectional study conducted at the Department ofCardiology, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi Institute of Cardiology, Multan fromSeptember 2013 to March 2014. Patients with age 40 years belonging to eithersex with at least one episode of chest pain lasting for 30 minutes were includedin the study. All patients underwent SPECT Scan and the findings of SPECT wereconfirmed by performing Coronary Angiography of every patient.

Results: Out of 282 patients, 45.03%(n=127) were between 40-60 years and54.97%(n=155) had >60 years of age, with mean age of 60.83±9.32 years.Males were 52.13%(n=147). Results of single photon emission computedtomography by taking coronary angiography as gold standard for the detection ofcoronary artery disease showed 17.02%(n=48) were true positive, 2.48%(n=7) were false positive, 77.31% (n=218) were true negative and 3.19%(n=9) were false negative. Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value and accuracy rate was computed as 84.21%, 96.88%,87.27%, 96.03% and 94.33% respectively.

Conclusion: We concluded that Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography,by taking Coronary Angiography as gold standard for the detection of CoronaryArtery Disease, has a good diagnostic accuracy and can be used to curtail thefinancial burden of diagnosis.
